Hello!
Here you will find some information about me, both professional and personal:
I graduated from UNCC in 1993 and hold a BS degree in Biology with a concentration in Botany and Ecology. I have been a teacher in CMS since 1993, and have taught at Butler since the school opened in 1997. I have taught Biology since I began in CMS and APES since 1998. In 2001, I earned my National Board Certification for Secondary Science. I have also earned certification in teaching academically gifted students, as well as NC Environmental Education certification. Additionally, I serve as the Science Department Chairperson at Butler.
Teaching Biology and Environmental Science is so rewarding! I feel so fortunate to be able to impact student's lives by imparting knowledge about such relevant and important subjects. As my students know "Biology is awesome - it helps the world make sense!" and environmental science is especially applicable in today's world. I enjoy studying nature and spending time outdoors (hiking, birding, and kayaking) and hope to nurture the "tree-hugger" spirit in my students as well!
My other hobbies include watching sports (Carolina Panthers football and UK basketball are my favorites), reading, photography, and traveling
In December 2006, my son Ethan was born. He is truly the love of my life! He provides a source of pure enjoyment and endless entertainment for my husband and I. We have lots of furry "children" as well, including dogs, cats, horses and hamsters!
